Why People Choose Spiritual Doctor Healing

By Elaine Guthrie When the average person falls ill, he or she turns to legitimate medicine, and a legitimately licensed clinician or doctor. A few rungs on the ladder beneath this one finds the world of alternative medicine. Typically, alternative medicine is a therapy which originates outside of the US and Europe, such as acupuncture. The popularity of spiritual doctor healing is impressive, given that it is far less respected than alternative medicine. Spiritual healing is the umbrella term for attempted treatments depending wholly in help from beings that don't register to human senses, beings whose very existence must be taken on faith. It is frequently the last stop for patients who are desperate, having tried everything sanctioned medicine can attempt. Often, the patient is also more interested in the touch of God than he or she is in getting healed as such. The malady might well be most important as a chance to witness the miraculous. Supernatural assistance is often ...

Yoga for the People and Healthy Bones !

Image
by Shari With the recent passing of BKS Iyengar (the teacher of my teacher Donald Moyer) and the exponential growth of yoga inspired by Mr. Iyengar, I have been thinking a lot about health outcomes and why yoga is such a powerful self-help tool. You see, in my day job as a home health physical therapist, health outcome is measured very differently than it is in a complementary alternative health care model that yoga falls within. My patients too often don't get better. My job in aiding their recovery often feels like I am trying to put a small Band-Aid on a gaping wound. I can’t change the situations that lead to their poor health. They suffer from the chronic life challenges of poverty. Years of poor health management, from an uncaring overworked, depersonalized, underfunded health care delivery system, and the chronic stress from living marginalized lives lead to chronic health issues. To often these patients are living in polluted urban environments, where walking is not done by...

5 Tips for People with Arthritis of the Hands

by Ann Swanson, M.S. in Yoga Therapy, E-RYT500, LMT Study of Hands by Albrecht Durer Our hands play such a big role in how we live our life’s purpose. Think of all that you have made or built with your hands. Think of all the hands you have shaken or held in your life. Think of all your hands have done for you just today. To be limited in life by your hands can be devastating. I have even met many people who feel as though they can’t even attempt to do yoga because of their hands. But as a yoga therapist who specializes in arthritis and chronic pain, my motto at Yoga for Arthritis, an evidence-based program and teacher training is, “Get up and live your joy!” For those with arthritis of the hands, this means using yoga to give some loving care to their hands. Your hands and wrists are some of the most common sites for joint pain from arthritis or related conditions. This makes sense when you consider what typically causes osteoarthritis: repetitive motion. Consider all the repetitive m...
